By Ben Palmer
Washington Wizards forward Otto Porter has reportedly been offered a max contract by the Sacramento Kings, which would be worth around four years and $106M.
Washington Wizards forward Otto Porter has reportedly been offered a max contract by the Sacramento Kings, according to Chris Haynes on Twitter. For Porter, a max offer would equate to roughly four years and $106M. Porter has said he has not made a decision yet.
As soon as NBA free agency started, the Washington Wizards had a meeting with Porter attempting to work out a deal, however the two were unable to come to an agreement.
Being that Porter is a restricted free agent, if the Wizards wish to keep him, they will have to match the Kings’ offer, something the Wizards have already said they would do, however some within the league believe that the Wizards could be bluffing in their statement that they would match any offers for Porter.

From Porter’s perspective, it makes sense for him to test free agency, because it’s really a win-win scenario for him. Either the Wizards have to match an aggressive offer from another team, like the one from the Kings, to retain him, or Porter goes to another team and makes more money, and considering the year Porter had last year, he’s going to be a sought-after player.
Porter really came into his own last year, showing the world why he was picked at No. 3 overall in 2013. He finished last season averaging 13.4 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals game, while shooting 51.6% from the floor, and 43.4% from three-point land. Every single one of those averages and percentages were career-highs for the 24-year-old.
There were talks for a while that the Wizards were willing to send Porter to the Indiana Pacers in a sign-and-trade deal to acquire Paul George, however right after free agency started, George was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis.

We’ll see just how aggressive the Wizards will be in retaining Porter, and this offer from the Kings will be the test to see if the Wizards are willing to really shell out the money to keep their young star.
