Before the Baltimore Orioles vs. Cleveland Indians series begins Monday night, we break down the series win over the weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Baltimore Orioles brought out the bats in a series win over the St. Louis Cardinals, but what does this say about the team?

There is a lot to digest about the weekend series, so much so that I want to look back instead of turning my attention to the Cleveland Indians just yet.

How much of the weekend series was fools’ gold against another struggling foe, and what will have a significant impact on the team moving forward?

5. Ubaldo Jimenez turns quality start

This is going to have to have a significant impact for this team to have a chance moving forward. I mentioned last week that one of the ways to fix the bullpen was to either put Jimenez in the rotation or to release him.

We figured the team wouldn’t release him, so the rotation it was. Sunday, he pitched very well, allowing only two solo home runs and giving the Orioles seven innings of quality.

Was it the pressure of knowing there was no depth in the bullpen? Was it the fact that a bad start could have ended up with him potentially released? No one is going to know. Maybe it was facing a National League team. Whatever the reason, Jimenez turned in a much-needed outing for himself personally and for the Orioles.
