Baltimore Orioles: Manny Machado has become an easily disliked figure outside of Birdland
By Brian Pinter

1. Friday, April 21, 2017: The spike blown up by media
Beginning a three-game home series against the Boston Red Sox, the Orioles had taken an early 2-0 lead. A single from Adam Jones to score Craig Gentry, and a home run from who else, Manny Machado.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Machado was on his way to second when his (non-fundamental) slide took his right foot into the left calf of second-baseman Dustin Pedroia.
Boston media had a field day with this.
Machado will get one in the back before this series ends. Make book on that.

Machado had stated after the game he “texted Pedroia to see if he was OK,” and he “did not intend to hurt Pedroia.”
Manny Machado appears to be a marked man at this point in his career. Only time will tell if the Red Sox plan to retaliate against him.

There shouldn’t be any retaliation for a slide that wasn’t late, rather, just awful.
