2. Tuesday, June 7, 2016: The brawl

Out of respect for the Kansas City Royals organization, and former starting pitcher, Yordano Ventura, I’m not going to post a video of this incident.

What happened was this.

Ventura had thrown inside to Machado on multiple occasions in the second inning, and after flying out to left field, Machado had words for Ventura.

In the fifth inning, Ventura had thrown inside to Machado again and hit him. The benches cleared, a brawl ensued, and both Machado and Ventura were ejected from the game.

Machado faced a four-game suspension, and Ventura a nine-game suspension.

In January, Ventura was killed in an auto accident in his native land of the Dominican Republic.

Speaking with reporters on Ventura’s death, Machado offered these words of solace,

"“It’s sad what happened. My condolences go to the family and I know they’re still grieving. I know it just sucks. I know we had our altercations on the field, but you know what? You leave stuff on the field. Once you step between those lines, its [the] gridiron. We’re out there grinding, playing for each other, playing for our team, playing for the name across our chests. You know, once you step [off] the field, those are things you don’t [ever] want to happen."

We at The Baltimore Wire still send our condolences to Yordano Ventura’s family, as well as the entire Kansas City Royals organization.
