Baltimore Orioles game 2 vs. Toronto Blue Jays: 3 things to watch
By Nate Wardle
Trey Mancini is getting thrown into the fire on Wednesday. First left-hander on the mound, and Mancini is manning right field for the Orioles, with Joey Rickard in right field.
The interest here is two-fold. One, what can Mancini do at the plate. The legend of Trey continues to grow. This is a guy who hit three home runs in just 15 at-bats in 2016. Then, he singled in his pinch-hit appearance on Monday.
The main interest in my mind is how he does defensively. If Mancini can hold his own, he will likely prove that he is in the majors to stay. Mancini is a first baseman by trade, but received a lot of work in the outfield this spring. Now, he is starting in right for the Orioles in their second game.
Will he lose a ball in the stands? The lights? No one knows. But, all signs so far have been that Mancini is an athletic guy who adapted quickly.
Anything Mancini does at the plate is a bonus for me in this one. I just want to see him hold down right field with no major issues.
