Baltimore Orioles: Does Trumbo’s return put O’s atop AL East DH rankings?
By Nate Wardle
1. Boston Red Sox
Boston Red Sox’ DHs – Hanley Ramirez, Mitch Moreland (1B), Pablo Sandoval (3B), Chris Young
What happens the year that David Ortiz retires? The Red Sox go out and get the Gold Glove winning first baseman, Mitch Moreland, and moves Hanley Ramirez to DH. A luxury few teams have.
HanRam will look to repeat his successful 2016 campaign where he hit .286/.361/.505 while being the team’s primary first baseman. Hanley had an oWAR of 3.3 in 2016 to go with his 30 HRs, 28 2Bs, 111 RBIs and 81 runs.
It was an excellent season for Ramirez. This isn’t to say that he is a better hitter than Holliday. But, he is younger and is coming off a successful season where he was healthy.
Next: Baltimore Orioles release Logan Ondrusek
Behind Ramirez at DH are Moreland who could switch spots with Ramirez to give Mitch some days off, Pablo Sandoval, who is the projected starting third baseman and Chris Young.
