Maryland basketball slides down to No. 21 in the latest AP Top 25 poll after last Saturday’s grueling one-point loss to Purdue.

Maryland basketball drops four spots to No. 21 in the Week 14 edition of the AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll.

The Terps, who hold an overall record of 20-3 and 8-2 in the Big Ten, sustained a backbreaking loss to Purdue for their third home loss of the season. On the other hand, Purdue’s victory against Maryland was crucial in the eyes of the pollsters as the Boilermakers jumped seven spots to No. 16. The Boilermakers also beat Northwestern, who was ranked 25th at the time, at home last week 80-69.

According to CollegePollTracker.com, Maryland for the second straight week didn’t receive any NR (Not Ranked) votes from the AP’s 65 pollsters.

AP pollster, Doug Doughty, who has been consistently high on Maryland the last few weeks and even placed Maryland at No. 7 in his submission last week, sent the Terps into a nosedive at No. 23 in his latest AP ballot.

Meanwhile, Lansing State Journal’s Graham Couch ranked Maryland No. 16 in his newest poll, the highest ranking out of all the pollsters. Lastly, Delaware County Daily Times’ Terry Toohey delivered the Terps’ lowest ranking at No. 25 after placing Maryland at No. 19 just last week.

Unlike previous seasons, the Maryland Terrapins three losses have all came at home as the team maintains their unbeaten road record. The Terps three home defeats this season already surpasses Maryland’s total home losses in the previous two seasons combined.

Entering Monday’s play, Maryland, who is second in the Big Ten, is one game behind No. 7 Wisconsin and just a half game ahead of Purdue as Maryland begins the final eight games of the regular season.

Maryland prepares for arguably their easiest week of games in Big Ten play as they first head north to Bryce Jordan Center to take on the 12-12 Penn State Nittany Lions Tuesday night.

Following, the Terps play Ohio State for the second time this season, this time at XFINITY Center in hopes to get back to their winning ways at home.
