4. Cornerback

It may sound strange to say that the Baltimore Ravens need to improve in the cornerback position when they finished the year as a top-10 passing defense.

They were tied for the most interceptions in the league, were tied for the seventh-lowest yards per passing attempt, and were ninth in total passing yards allowed.

But here’s the thing: the Ravens have talented players in their secondary. Eric Weddle played amazingly for them in his first year as a Raven and Lardarius Webb played well too.

Jimmy Smith played just as well as we’ve come to expect him to, but therein lies the problem: there’s not much depth behind Smith. When the Ravens lost Smith for the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers that knocked Baltimore out of playoff contention, it showed, as Ben Roethlisberger was able to throw all over them.

The Ravens also lack a true shutdown corner. Smith is a very good cornerback, but he’s not a shutdown cornerback, and considering the incredible receivers in the AFC North (A.J. Green, Antonio Brown), that’s something the Ravens could use.
