3. Mark Trumbo will not return to the Baltimore Orioles

The Mark Trumbo situation is almost identical to the Chris Davis saga last offseason, just not nearly as much money involved. The Orioles contract negotiations with Davis prolonged well into the month of January. Finally, the two sides agreed to a seven-year deal worth $161 million on January 21st, just days before the Baltimore blizzard slammed the area with record-breaking snowfall throughout the area.

Ultimately, the two sides agreed to a seven-year deal worth $161 million on January 21st, just days before the Baltimore blizzard slammed the area with record-breaking snowfall throughout the area.

As we roll into the first week of January, it seems as if contract talks between the O’s and Trumbo have not advanced after Roch Kubatko of MASNsport.com reported last month the Orioles yanked their offer to Trumbo off the table. The exact scenario happened last offseason with Davis, and there’s a chance it may happen all over again with Trumbo.

However, Duquette told Jim Duquette and ESPN’s Jim Bowden during an interview on MLB Network Radio that he’d prefer the value of the draft pick that comes if Trumbo signs elsewhere.

According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, Trumbo recently advised the Orioles for a three-year, $50 million deal. However, he later signified that he is willing to agree on a deal for three years worth somewhere in the ballpark of $40 million to $50 million area.
