Baltimore Orioles: 5 of the most exciting games of 2016
By Nate Wardle
2. June 5: New York Yankees 1, Baltimore Orioles 3
Just two days before the Ventura game, the Orioles had a huge victory over the New York Yankees.
The Orioles’ offense was stagnant off C.C. Sabathia, who went five innings allowing only two hits.
Kevin Gausman had another good outing, allowing only one run through six innings, but was in-line for another loss.
The Yankees went to Dellin Betances in the seventh, and also the eighth as it poured rain in Baltimore.
Mark Trumbo walked, Chris Davis singled, and Nolan Reimold struck out, but then the tarp came out. The delay lasted over an hour and 30 minutes, forcing Betances out, and Aroldis Chapman into the game.
Jonathan Schoop struck out, and then the Orioles got a big hit from Francisco Pena to load the bases.
Matt Wieters came in off the bench and hit a slow single back up the middle off Chapman, scoring two and giving the Orioles the lead. But, Jacoby Ellsbury airmailed the throw, and the Orioles scored three on the play and moved Wieters to third.
Zach Britton came in and got two ground outs and a strikeout to give the Orioles a big come-from-behind victory, and Chapman his first loss in pinstripes.
