4. Doug Fister – 12-13, 4.64 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 5.74 K/9

Another player with a kind of gross-looking stat line, Doug Fister will be entering his age-33 season next year. He’s two seasons removed from his 16-6, 2.41 ERA season with the Washington Nationals, so it’s not all that hard to imagine a comeback being possible for him.

Fister has never been a strikeout pitcher, he’s always been a groundball pitcher, and his groundball rate has steadily been declining since that year with the Nationals.

If Fister is able to get his groundballs back up, and bring down his hard hit rate, he could very easily get back to being a useful mid-rotation starter, and would likely be inexpensive.
