Washington Wizards: John Wall Outshines Hornets’ Kemba Walker in Win

Washington Wizards score 38 points in the third quarter to beat Hornets, 109-106, to capture their 10th victory of the season.

Unlike the brutal cold expected to invade the Washington, D.C. area over the next few days, Washington Wizards‘ John Wall has been scorching hot this December.

In seven games this month, Wall is averaging 26.9 points, 10 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.1 steals. The 26-year-old has also scored at least 25 points in seven of eight December games including a career-high 52 points in an embarrassing loss to the Orlando Magic last Tuesday.

Wall continued his red-hot December Wednesday night recording his 12th double-double of the season scoring 25 points and 10 assists along with a season-high seven steals, and six rebounds. The Washington Wizards’ superstar point guard outplayed opposing NBA Star, Kemba Walker who scored 17 points with nine assists and six rebounds. The Wizards outplayed the Hornets in almost every major category including rebounds (41-33), assists (27-25), steals (15-7), and committed fewer turnovers (18-14).

After a Bradley Beal three-pointer that tied the game at 56 a piece, the Hornets went on a 10-0 run that put the visiting team on top by 10 with 8:22 left in the third. The Wizards quickly climbed back to take a one-point lead with 5:44 left and never looked back.

Beal, who missed all six of his shot attempts in the first half, joined forced with Wall to command the second half, tallying 11 points and a career-best nine assists.

Of course, the Wizards had to make things interesting as they almost threw away a six-point lead with 24.6 seconds remaining in the game. Wall at the free throw line with 9.6 seconds left had a chance to put away the game and put the Wizards up by four. However, after missing his first free throw attempt, Wall converted on the second as the Wizards led 106-109.

With the last possession of the game, Hornets’ Nicolas Batum missed a three-pointer, but Walker grabbed an offensive rebound to give the Hornets one last shot beyond the arc to send the game into overtime. Fortunately, Walker’s three-pointer rimmed out as the Wizards survived to improve to 10-14 on the season.
