Baltimore Orioles: Inside Look of the Current 40-Man Roster
By Nate Wardle
First Base
Chris Davis, Trey Mancini
Not much needs to be said about Chris Davis, except it appears the team is trying to keep him at first base, where he helps form one of the best defensive infields in the game.
As of Trey Mancini, the talk is that he would have to play his way on the Opening Day roster. Now, that could change with a signing of a power hitter like Trumbo, or Edwin Encarnacion. However, at this point, his spot seems safe.
Second Base
Jonathan Schoop
Again, not much needs to be said about the Orioles’ talented second baseman, who hopefully will be more selective in 2017 and continue to become a dominant force in the lineup.
Shortstop
J.J. Hardy, Ryan Flaherty
Can the Orioles get a full, healthy season out of J.J. Hardy? No one knows at this point, and I feel the answer is trending toward no. Which is why I placed super-utility man Ryan Flaherty as a shortstop as all things are considered, it is the position he is most likely to backup (assuming Manny Machado remains at third base).
Third Base
Manny Machado
The only items worth discussing with All-Star Machado are when/if he is going to move to shortstop, and will he still be an Oriole at that time.
