Baltimore Orioles: Inside Look of the Current 40-Man Roster

The current Baltimore Orioles’ roster is the most important thing to remember during this time of year when rumors swirl on the latest team moves.

Join with me, as we examine theBaltimore Orioles40-man roster and set aside the pursuit ofMatt Wieters,Wellington Castillo, and the catchers,Mark Trumboas a power-hitting DH andJarrod Dyson,Curtis Grandersonand others (but not Jose Bautista).

I want to look at the Orioles current roster. Say this was the team that the Orioles played the first game of the season with. We will review the 40-man, and discuss who is likely to make the roster, barring moves made, and also what potential moves would mean.

Catcher

Alright, we know that is not going to last. I think signing (or trading, butprobably signing) a catcher is the most likely move the Orioles make. Whether it is Castillo, Wieters or someone else.

But, as of right nowCaleb Josephwould be the starter. It is easy to look at Caleb from his 2016 numbers, where he struggled mightily, and forget that as a regular starter in 2014 and 2015, Joseph did an excellent job, particularly behind the plate and with framing pitches.

Buck Showalter and Dan Duquette continually talk about likingFrancisco Pena, but I don’t think he is more than an injury insurance policy, and the fact the Orioles are trying to sign a catcher seems to agree with me.
