1. Boston Red Sox – Mookie Betts

Preseason prediction – 2nd, Mookie Betts, Chris Young, Brock Holt, Bryce Brentz

This one wasn’t difficult. In fact, the entire position was fairly easy to rank. Mookie Betts finished second in the MVP race, to only the best player of this generation, Mike Trout. Betts hit .316/.363/.534 with 31 HR, 42 2B, 113 RBIs, 122 runs and 26 stolen bases. That is filling out the stat sheet. Every time you turned around, he hit a home run against the Orioles. Betts was an All-Star, a Silver Slugger and a Gold Glove winner. Not bad for one year.

Betts had an oWAR of 6.2, a dWAR of 2.8 and an overall WAR of 9.6. Again, incredible. Let’s look at some of the statistical rankings. Overall WAR, 2nd; dWAR, 2nd; Batting Average, 2nd; Runs scored, 2nd; Hits, 2nd; total bases, 1st; Doubles, 3rd; RBIs, 4th, SBs, 6th; Singles, 3rd. I think you get the idea. The range was above league average easily, as was his other fielding metrics. A complete season for another emerging star in the Red Sox outfield.
