Washington Wizards’ John Wall scores 23 points, and 11 assists as the Wizards defeat the Knicks to end a three-game skid.
After a demoralizing road loss to the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday night, the only cure for the Washington Wizards woes was to cease their three-game skid with a victory at home against the New York Knicks. With the help of all-star John Wall‘s 23 points and 11 assists, the Wizards got what they desperately needed.
The Wizards opened the game missing their first three shots, but the Wizards quickly pulled ahead 19-16 in the first quarter after a three-point field goal by Otto Porter and never looked back. By the third quarter, the Wizards stretched their lead to a commanding 27 points with 2:36 left in the quarter following an alley-oop dunk by Markieff Morris as Wall secured his 11th assist of the night.
However, with the Wizards up 22 points with just 4:33 remaining in the game, the Knicks went on a 12-0 to pull within 10 points as Wizards’ forcing head coach Scott Brooks to insert Wall back into the game. Despite the Knicks outscoring the Wizards 47-32 in the fourth quarter, Wall and the Wizards were able to hold on to grasp their third win of the season, beating the Knicks 119-112.

Wizards guard Bradley Beal logged in 29 minutes with a productive 18 points as he returned from a sore hamstring injury that sidelined him three games. Beal, Wall, and Otto Porter made a combined ten three-pointers, helping the Wizards shoot a collective 60% behind the arc. For the first time this season Wall played in the second game of a back-to-back and showed no signs of any limitations as he continues to work his way back from offseason knee surgery on both knees.
The Wizards bench continued its early season struggles, allowing the Knicks to surge back to within 8 points late in the fourth quarter. The Wizards starters and most importantly Wall had a rare chance to rest the entire fourth quarter, but the second team failed to seize the opportunity.
Next, the Wizards look to build off their win against the Knicks as the Miami Heat come to Verizon Center Saturday night. The Heat are averaging just 94.5 points per game this season, which ranks 28th in the NBA.

However, despite their low scoring output, the Heat are the NBA’s third best defensive team, allowing just 95.3 points a game. Heat’s dominant big man Hassan Whiteside is averaging 17.6 points and 16 rebounds per game and with Wizard’s center Ian Mahinmi still working his way back from knee surgery, Whiteside may cause serious issues for the Wizards.
