2. Boston Red Sox – Brock Holt, Chris Young, Andrew Benintendi, Bryce Brentz, Blake Swihart

Preseason prediction – 3rd, Rusney Castillo, Young, Brennan Boesch

I’m not sure how the Red Sox ended up here. Super-utilityman Brock Holt, who I have discussed at several other positions, started the most games (55) at left field for the Red Sox. Chris Young also started some games early in the season, particularly when Holt was out with a concussion. Young performed as expected. He is a guy who will bring some power, hitting .276/.352/.498 with 9 HR, 18 2Bs, 24 RBIs, and 29 runs.

But, it was Andrew Benintendi who brought optimism for the position in the future. The 22-year-old hit .295/.359/.476. He hasn’t developed his power yet but did an exquisite job at the position. His defense rated slightly below average at the position.
