Ravens News: Elvis Dumervil Out vs. Buffalo Bills
By Joe Serpico
The Baltimore Ravens got some bad news today as outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil will not play against the Buffalo Bills.
The Baltimore Ravens are relying on a lot of “old guys” to get back to their winning ways. One of those guys will not take the field on Sunday for the regular season opener.
Elvis Dumervil will not play against the Bills, saying he had a setback in the recovery for his offseason foot procedure. The news was inevitable as he’s been out of practice since Aug. 29.
Here is what the 32-year old told reporters about the injury:
“I won’t be able to go this week,” Dumervil said. “So we’re just working at it in the training room, just getting ready.”
“It’s one of those things where your body kind of tells you when it’s ready,” he said a little later. “So we’re all pushing. We wanted it to be Week 1, but unfortunately, it wasn’t.”
The Ravens activated him from the physically unable to perform list on Aug. 22. He practiced for a week after being held out for all of spring activities and the first three weeks of training camp.
Albert McClellan is listed ahead of Dumervil and was expected to be a big part of the game plan as is. Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees will have to rely on youngsters Za’Darius Smith and Matt Judon to get after the passer.
Dumervil ranks second among active players with 96 sacks since 2006. He posted six sacks last year after recording a franchise-record 17 in 2014. Baltimore was hopeful that the return of Terrell Suggs would get Doom back over 10 sacks this season.

It is a blow to the Ravens defense, but at this point of the season, you look at the long-term picture. There is no need to rush Dumervil back to start the year when he is more valuable as it progresses.
