The Baltimore Ravens have released running back Justin Forsett

In a somewhat surprising move, the Baltimore Ravens have released running back Justin Forsett. The 30-year-old had appeared to be in line to be the starter come week one of the season, however it would seem that that responsibility will now fall to either Buck Allen or Terrance West.

Forsett had a breakout year in 2014 as a starter for the Ravens (his fifth NFL team), rushing for 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns in 235 attempts. Forsett had a disappointing year last year, only rushing for 641 yards and two touchdowns in 151 attempts until a broken arm in week 11 ended his season.

The release comes as a relative surprise, considering the Ravens signed Forsett to a three-year $9M deal last year, however after the disappointing season he had last year, as well as the Ravens’ depth at running back, this move doesn’t come completely out of left field.

More than likely Buck Allen and Terrance West will share reps during the season with rookie Kenneth Dixon mixing in periodically.
