Ravens Should Call Cowboys About Ryan Mallett Trade
By Joe Serpico
The Dallas Cowboys could be in the market for a quarterback with Tony Romo’s latest injury. Could they make a deal with the Baltimore Ravens for Ryan Mallett?
It was just last week that Baltimore Ravens Head Coach said that quarterback Ryan Mallett could be in for a battle for the backup job behind Joe Flacco. Journeyman Josh Johnson has outplayed him during the preseason and has impressed his coaches enough to make this known.
The decision to go public with that news had us speculate if the Ravens were publicly putting Mallett on the trading block. Many around the NFL feel that he is capable of being starter, but few teams had openings for him.
Until now.
The Dallas Cowboys will be without Tony Romo for six to 10 weeks with a broken bone in his back. It did not look good initially for Romo, he was obviously in pain, but told reporters after the game he felt he could get back in if the coaching staff allowed him to. However, the Cowboys got the news today that he could miss nearly half the season with the injury.

That leaves Dallas with rookie Dak Prescott as the presumptive starter. The fourth-round pick has been the talk of the preseason as he has gone 39-of-50 with five touchdowns and no interceptions, while adding two touchdowns rushes to his impressive stat line. With that said, it is one thing to dazzle in the preseason. The regular season is a different beast.
Dallas was reportedly interested in adding Nick Foles before he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. If they are still looking, they should give the Ravens a call for Mallet.
Mallett’s play has not been the question. He can make all the throws. It has been his character off the field that has rubbed teams the wrong way. But this is the Dallas Cowboys we are talking about here. Jerry Jones will embrace anyone, especially a former Arkansas star.
This is a win-win for the Ravens. If they are true to their word that Johnson is the leading candidate to backup Flacco that does not leave Mallett with a guaranteed roster spot. Harbaugh usually does not keep three quarterbacks on the roster. Getting anything for Mallett instead of letting him go for free would be a steal.

Ozzie Newsome loves to stockpile draft picks. This is a chance to take advantage of a team in need to get a few more of them. The Ravens should ship Mallett to the Cowboys and everyone will get what they want.
