Baltimore Ravens: Fourth-Round Picks Making Headlines at Training Camp
By Joe Serpico
A trio of fourth-round picks stole the headlines at the Baltimore Ravens’ second training camp practice.
The Baltimore Ravens have plenty of news to follow off the field with Mike Wallace failing his conditioning test and Jake Long opting not to sign with the team. There are some things happening on the field as well.
The second training camp practice took place this morning, and it was some fourth-round choices that caught the attention of the media.
Chris Moore had his moment to shine on a 65-yard touchdown reception from Joe Flacco. The Ravens drafted the former Cincinnati star because of his ability to make plays down field and beat Jimmy Smith on the play. The crowd at the Under Armour Performance Centrr cheered as Moore has been one of the more notable youngsters so far in camp.
And if anyone was worried that Flacco’s deep ball might be affected by his knee injury, no chance. He hit Moore right in stride on the pass.
The Ravens’ first of five fourth-round picks this season, Tavon Young, also had a terrific second day of practice. He has seen time with the starting defense and capitalized on his opportunity by intercepting Ryan Mallett twice. Young has a chance to win the job as the nickel corner, and today’s performance should help him get in the good graces of Dean Pees.
Not all went well for the Ravens, however. Yesterday, it was Kenneth Dixon, another fourth-rounder, who injured his knee during Thursday’s practice. He sat out of today’s workout, but expected back any day.
Today, it was Crockett Gillmore who left practice early. He suffered a hamstring injury and will get an MRI on the injury. We have no update on the severity of the injury and Gillmore has battled several injuries in this past year. The Ravens are blessed with depth at tight end this year, but Gillmore has shown flashes of brilliance. Hopefully, it is nothing severe.

The first two practices were without pads., but things will heat up tomorrow as the Ravens team will go in full pads. You hate to say it, but that’s when the major injuries start to mount up. We hope that’s not the case again this season.
