The Baltimore Orioles could break the record on Thursday night for the most home runs in the month of June, a record they currently are tied for.

To say the Baltimore Orioles’ offense has been powerful this month is an understatement.

The team has hit 55 home runs this month, tied with the 1996 Oakland A’s for the most in the month of June.

All of that got me thinking as to whether this team has a chance at some other home run records.

We all probably know the major league record for home runs in a season is 264, set by the 1997 Seattle Mariners. Right now the Orioles are on pace to hit 259 home runs in the season.

That would leave the team just shy of the record. But, it is worth mentioning that with the warmer weather, the ball will carry more, and more home runs should theoretically be hit later in the season than in the early months.

However, one also has to consider if the O’s can keep this current pace up.  Regardless, it will be close.

The O’s are on pace for 137 home runs on the road. The AL record is 136, set by the 1996 Orioles team. The major league record is 138, set by the 2001 San Francisco Giants.  Both of those numbers are certainly within reach.

The O’s are on pace for 125 home runs at home, which would put them 13 home runs behind the AL record at home, set by the 2012 New York Yankees. That one might be a stretch.

The record for most 20 home run hitters on a team in a season is seven, set by several teams including the 1996 O’s. I don’t think the team can quite reach that.

Mark Trumbo is currently at an MLB leading (tied with Todd Frazier, who went deep Thursday) 23 HRs. Chris Davis has 19, Manny Machado has 18, Adam Jones has 16, Jonathan Schoop has 13, Pedro Alvarez has 9, and Matt Wieters also has 9. With Alvarez as a part-time player, it will be tough, but not impossible.

The record for most 30 home run players in a season is four.  This is certainly in reach, as Trumbo, Davis, Machado, Jones and Schoop could all get to 30 easily.

The record for most 40 home run hitters in a season is two, by numerous teams. Could the O’s break that record?  Could Trumbo, Davis, Machado and or Jones get to 40? We all know that Davis has already hit 40 in his career.

Trumbo’s highest is 34, but he is on-pace to destroy that mark this season. Manny’s highest is 35, last season. He is already half way to that total.

Thursday night, the O’s will take their last swings at another record, one that franchise already holds. That is the record for 58 home runs in a month.

More from Baltimore Orioles

The O’s need to hit four home runs to break the record, in spacious Safeco Field against Taijuan Walker, who has allowed 14 home runs this season, but only six at home.

The even better news is that the O’s offense has propelled them to the division lead, a 5.5 game advantage over the Boston Red Sox.

An AL East Championship, AL Championiship, and World Series Championship would mean more than any record.

But the records are nice along the way!
