Baltimore Ravens: Who Wins the Left Guard Competition?
By Joe Serpico
Alex Lewis
Alex Lewis is a player that the Ravens love. They have raved about his work ethic and size on the inside. Part of the reason they took him in the fourth round is his ability to be a swing player on the offensive line.
Lewis played the last two seasons at left tackle at Nebraska, but did start an entire season at left guard at Colorado before transferring to Lincoln. At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, he is bigger than both Urschel and Jensen. His father played in the league for seven years for the Patriots, Rams and Cardinals, so he knows what it takes to make it in the NFL.
While the team has loved what they have seen from Lewis, I find it hard to imagine that the Ravens will have two rookies protecting Flacco’s blindside coming off ACL surgery. He could be the man for the job down the road, but it would be a surprise to see him as the starter come the regular season opener.

The left guard position is one of several position battles to watch this summer. It is the one position on offense that is still up in the air and anyone can take hold of the job. The one thing we do know is that Marshal Yanda is manning the other guard position and is the best in the business.
