Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Breshad Perriman does not have a torn ACL and should be ready for the regular season.

It is never good news when you have to visit Dr. James Andrews. His name is the most dreaded in sports and the diagnosis usually is not good.

When you can walk away from that trip knowing that you should be good to go for the regular season, that is the best news you can get.

Multiple sources have reported that Breshad Perriman received a stem-cell injection in his ACL Tuesday, and that should allow his knee to heal on its own in time for the regular season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

This is the best case scenario for the Ravens and Perriman as it was originally feared that he tore his ACL in a non-contact drill in last week’s workouts. There is no immediate timetable for his return, but fears that he would miss the entire season have been put to rest.

Perriman is coming off a year in which he missed the entire season due to an injury sustained on the first day of training camp last summer. He ultimately needed surgery on Oct. 1 to repair a partially torn PCL.

The news that he possibility tore his ACL had many fans and media calling him soft and a bust. That didn’t sit well with many teammates and coaches, who described the latest injury as a “freak accident.”

With the news that Perriman will be ready for Week One, the Ravens do not need to look outside the organization for help at receiver. Marc Trestman can still incorporate the 2015 first-round pick into his offensive plans this season. Baltimore knows the future of the position rests on his development and they will get their man on the field this year.

The worst case scenario has been averted. Now we hope Perriman becomes the star on the field that this franchise has lacked in its 20 years of existence.
