Baltimore Ravens: Way Too Early 53-Man Roster Prediction
By Joe Serpico
Ravens Offense
QB: Joe Flacco, Ryan Mallett
RB: Justin Forsett, Javorius Allen, Kenneth Dixon
FB: Kyle Juszczyk
WR: Steve Smith, Mike Wallace, Breshad Perriman, Kamar Aiken, Chris Moore, Keenan Reynolds
TE: Ben Watson, Maxx Williams, Crockett Gillmore
OT: Eugene Monroe, Ronnie Stanley, Ricky Wagner, Alex Lewis
OG: Marshal Yanda, John Urschel
C: Jeremy Zuttah, Ryan Jensen
The quarterbacks are no brainers. If for some reason Flacco is not ready to start the regular season, they have Jerrod Johnson around as a potential practice squad player.
The running back group is loaded and should be one of the more interesting battles entering training camp. A talented back is going to be released or traded at some point, and it wouldn’t be crazy if Forsett is that guy either. Terrance West, Trent Richardson and Lorenzo Taliaferro are going to make this decision tough for the Ravens’ coaches.
The receiving corps is mainly set in stone. Smith, Perriman, Wallace, Aiken will be in uniform come Week 1. Moore will be a developmental player in his first season.
Reynolds is listed as a receiver, but he is the type of player that you just get the ball into his hands and hope he breaks one. With that said, Michael Campanaro, Marlon Brown, Chris Matthews and Jeremy Butler are gone.
Tight end will be another competition to watch. Baltimore gave Watson a pretty nice contract so he’ll be around. Williams is last year’s second-round pick so no chance he is gone. Dennis Pitta making a comeback is where things get intriguing. Could be bump Crockett Gillmore from the team? Maybe, but I feel the Ravens would rather keep someone who is not one play away from damaging his hip again. Nick Boyle will start the season on the suspended list, and it remains to be seen whether they keep him around.
What the offensive line will look like depends on what the plans are for Monroe. The Ravens could get a good chunk of cap space by releasing Monroe come June 1, but they really do not have the depth already on the roster to make that kind of move. If they do let Monroe go, that means James Hurst is staying. That’s the guy who was “protecting” Flacco went he suffered his knee injury, and Pro Football Focus rated Hurst as one of the worst offensive lineman in the NFL.
