Baltimore Ravens: 3 Draft Prospects to Avoid
By Joe Serpico
Mackensie Alexander
The one name that we keep linking to the Ravens in the first round is Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III. He would be a great fit in this defense and there is no denying that Baltimore needs another corner. They could go many ways at No. 6, so a corner might still be needed in the later rounds.
Mackensie Alexander is someone that could still be on the board when the Ravens are on the clock at No. 36. Alexander was another highly recruited player coming out of high school, but sat out his first year at Clemson due to a groin injury. He was a starter for the next two seasons and many feel he is one of the top corners in this class.
The unknown with Alexander is how he will hold up against NFL receivers. He is shorter in stature and doesn’t really have a knack for getting his hands on the ball. In his two years at Clemson, he broke up just 11 passes and had zero interceptions. Many teams would not throw his way, but that’s not going to be the case in the NFL. They are going to attack any rookie cornerback and there is little tape to show if he can get the job done.
There are other cornerbacks that could still be around in Round 2 or 3 that intrigue me more. William Jackson of Houston and Miami’s Artie Burns are two personal favorites, and have shown more on the field than Alexander.
