had to make a tough decision when he

parted ways with veteran linebacker Daryl Smith

. Smith was one of the first moves the team made after the retirement of

Ray Lewis

, and he notched over 100 tackles in all three seasons in purple and black.

Scooby Wright is a similar player in that he is a presence against the run. He has a relentless motor and can get to the passer from the interior. His 2014 season is arguably the best in the history of college football by a linebacker when he tallied 163 tackles, 29 for a loss, with also 14 sacks and six forced fumbles.

The knock on Wright is that he is not particularly great in pass coverage, but the Ravens rarely asked Smith to play in coverage. He also had a down 2015 season, but that was largely due to injuries.

Dean Pees needs another man in the middle as the current makeup of this team has C.J. Mosley starting next to 2013 second-round pick Arthur Brown or undrafted players in Albert McClellan and Zach Orr. The Ravens would hope that Wright puts up the same numbers of the 2014 season and give them a great duo at inside linebacker for years to come.
