Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker has passed away after a motorcycle accident near his hometown in Florida.

The worst news came out of Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami today that Ravens cornerback Tray Walker has died He was 23 years old.

The accident happened not too far from where Walker went to high school at Miami Northwestern. He was rushed to hospital following a collision in which his dirt bike smashed into a SUV last night. Police said Walker was not wearing a helmet and his bike did not headlights.

Walker was heading west on Northwest 75th Street on a Honda dirt bike when he hit a Ford Escape heading south on Northwest 21st Avenue, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department. The accident happended at about 7:50 p.m. Thursday and the news of his passing came just after 5 p.m. today.

Walker was a fourth-round pick out of Texas Southern last season and had an up-and-down season in his rookie year with the Ravens. The team knew he would be a project coming out of a smaller school, and his first season was mostly spent adjusting to the speed of the NFL. He played on just eight plays on defense, with the majority of his work coming on special teams.

What makes the story more disheartening for the Walker family is that Tray’s father passed away in 2014 due to a heart attack. Tray dedicated his rookie year to his father and spread his father’s ashes in the Miami water a day after he was drafted. That was also his father’s birthday.

The team and players left many heart-filled wishes on their Twitter accounts following the news that he had passed away.

Our thoughts are with his family at this troubling time.
