Joe Flacco Contract Extension: Fan Reactions
By Joe Serpico
The Baltimore Ravens gave Joe Flacco a contract extension and the fans are happy to keep their quarterback around until at least 2021.
Earlier today, Joe Flacco reached an agreement with the Ravens on an extension that will give the franchise quarterback $66.4 million with $44 million guaranteed. It has been reported that he will receive a $40 million signing bonus and will average just under $21 million per year until his contract expires.
As we explained earlier, it was a move the Ravens had to make for a handful of reasons. They were strapped for cap space and Flacco was scheduled to count for $28.55 million against the cap this season. The new deal saves the Ravens nearly $6 million this year and $13 million in the next two years.
It gives them an opportunity to keep some of their own with the franchise for the long term, but do not expect the savings to mean Kelechi Osemele is suddenly going to see the majority of the cap savings. The $6 million that is now available to the Ravens will make up for the franchise tag of Justin Tucker ($4.57 million) and a likely second-round tender for Kamar Aiken ($2.55 million). It gives the Ravens some flexibility with some others moves that they could make, and some salary cap casualties are still likely.
When the news broke that the agreement had been reached, the fans were happy to know that they get to keep their quarterback for the long haul while also helping the team get the players they need to get back into playoff contention. Here are just some of what people had to say about the news today:
