The Baltimore Wire staff makes their predictions for Super Bowl 50, and all of us are with MVP Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.

The biggest Sunday in football is finally here. Now it is time to predict the winner of Super Bowl 50.

The Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos earned the top seeds in their respective conferences during the regular season and will meet in San Francisco to decide which team had the more magical season.

The Broncos are back in the big game for the second time in three seasons. The last time Denver made it to the Super Bowl, they were mauled by the Seattle Seahawks in a 43-8 drubbing. This game has added flare because it is likely the last time we will see sure-fire Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. Manning and the Broncos are hopeful to send their quarterback into the sunset in style, ending his career with the ultimate prize like fellow Broncos’ quarterback John Elway

This is relatively new territory for the Panthers. Carolina will be making their second Super Bowl appearance and are led by the first MVP in franchise history in Cam Newton. He is a threat to score in every game, but good luck trying to stop him. Newton represents the new style of quarterback that has the ability to throw and run. His frame makes him difficult to bring to the ground, and he can make every throw necessary. This could be the first of many Super Bowl appearances for the Panthers as long as Newton is at the helm.

Our staff is a great group of guys that just happen to be big sports fans as well. We share a passion for Baltimore sports, but appreciate the beauty of sports in general. The Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year, so of course, we needed to make our own predictions on who will win the big one. Our staff might all hail from Baltimore, but it seems as though that most of us are jumping on the Carolina bandwagon. Here are the staff’s predictions for the game:

Ben Palmer (@benjpalmer) – Panthers 27, Broncos 13

I think one of the biggest stories of the Super Bowl is the Panthers defensive line against the Broncos offensive line, and I think the Panthers line will win that and put a lot of pressure on Peyton, who’s basically made of balsa wood at this point and would probably fracture his spine if he sneezed too hard. The Broncos can’t run the ball as well as the Panthers and the Panthers defense is as good if not better than the Bronco’s. Cam and company will be able to take out Denver’s defense and the game is going to be well in their hands by halftime.

Randy Buchman (@osayorioles) – Panthers 24, Broncos 17

It is simply Cam Newton’s year and the football gods are with him. I don’t know why, but they are.

  • This year’s Super Bowl is, in my opinion, going to come down to whether Denver’s defense can stop Cam Newton. Newton has dynamic playmaking ability, kind of like Russell Wilson, only he is even harder to tackle, and arguably a better passer. The Broncos possess one of the best all-around defenses in the NFL, when considering the defensive line, linebackers, and defensive backs. So, I think it will be a great match-up. However, this Broncos team is not built to play from behind, and not built to score a lot of points. Peyton Manning no longer is the downfield threat he once was. Even though I think the Broncos defense will have some success against Cam, I don’t think it is enough.

    Kyle Andrews (@KyleAndrews1994) – Panthers 23, Broncos 17

Their defense just will be too relentless for the Broncos to be able to overcome in the end. Look for a big game from Luke Kuechly.

    Joe Serpico (@JoeSerp) – Panthers 27, Broncos 20

As much as I would like to see Peyton go out as a champion, I just haven’t seen anything that makes me believe his arm can win a game if necessary. Tonight is likely to be one of those nights, and the Panthers defense has been very opportunistic this season. Kuechly has returned an interception for a score in the past two games and its possible he gets a third in this game. In the end, I trust the MVP to win the game. Newton will join rare company as one of the few players to ever play the game and win both the National Championship and a Super Bowl.

The NFL offseason will begin for everyone after the game so the road for the Baltimore Ravens to make it back to the Super Bowl starts tomorrow. Enjoy the game everyone!
