The University of Maryland football team finishes National Signing Day with the 42nd ranked class, headlined by three four-star recruits.

National Signing Day is here and thousands of high school football players around the country will announce where they intended to play this fall.

Maryland football is going through a transition stage as D.J. Durkin takes over the program from Randy Edsall. Durkin has built a very impressive coaching staff, but many knew it would be difficult for him to keep all of the commits from the past coaches. It was a terrific effort despite only being on campus for just two months.

Maryland lost out on QB Dwayne Haskins, who chose Ohio State over the in-state Terps. They did land three-star QB prospect Tyrell Pigrome, but it is no secret that Haskins was the big prize the program was hoping could turn things around at quarterback. Pigrome, the Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year, was heavily recruited by new Terps offensive coordinator Walt Bell.

Pigrome led Clay-Chalkville (AL) to a 14-1 record and the Class 6A championship game this past fall, completing 65 percent of his passes for 3,080 yards and 44 touchdowns with only four interceptions. He also rushed for 1,349 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 8.4 yards per carry.

DeMatha Catholic is well-represented in this class as four recruits will stay in Maryland, headlined by offensive guard Terrance Davis. Tino Ellis, another DeMatha product, is the top skill position player that will come to College Park. Fellow wide receiver D.J. Turner and running back Lorenzo Harrison will join Davis and Ellis in College Park.

The Terps have the 42nd ranked recruiting class in the nation, which is seventh in the Big Ten Conference.

3:15: Terps have a total of 22 players committed to the University of Maryland. That is likely the end of the commitments for this year. We will continue to update if anything changes.

2:35: St. John’s defensive lineman Terrell Hall has chosen Alabama over Maryland.

2:20: Coach Durkin held a press conference and said that Pigrome “is electric” and “will be a household name around here real soon.”

11:47:

11:08: Terps have added three-star recruit Tyrek Tisdale from Oak Ridge High in Florida.
