The Baltimore Orioles and Chris Davis made his new 7-year, $161 million dollar deal official on Thursday evening during a press conference that was broadcast live across several sources.

Davis is now the highest paid Oriole of all time, and it isn’t even close. During the aforementioned press conference, several interesting tidbits were revealed, both in the Davis negotiations, and where the O’s will move next in the offseason.

First, Scott Boras revealed that he made a trip to Baltimore to start the offseason, a move he says he typically doesn’t make. He met with both Dan Duquette and Peter Angelos on the trip, which helped move negotiations along.

In addition, Boras had a good quote when asked whether Davis had any other offers. Boras replied by saying “when you go to a wedding, you never talk about your girlfriends.” I still think Boras is bluffing, and that Davis didn’t have any other offers. But now that he is an Oriole, it really doesn’t matter.

Duquette commented that he couldn’t keep track of how many places he went in Baltimore and was told he had to bring back Chris Davis. Davis also talked about how important Baltimore is to him, saying he is ecstatic to be back and has a special place in his heart for Baltimore fans.

Davis also discussed the recent success for the Orioles and how that makes it an attractive place to play as a player. In all, nothing overly surprising from Boras, Buck or Davis at the presser. Davis still appears to be a stand-up guy, Buck appears thrilled to get his slugger back, and Boras just sees dollar signs.

But, Dan Duquette did hint to the fact that the Orioles may not be making any major moves on signing a starting pitching. Now, baseball blogger aficionado Randy Buchman has discussed recently here and here what the Orioles’ plan may be.

So, with that being said, the Orioles still need a fifth starter from somewhere. Could be an incentive-laden contract to a veteran. Could be giving Tyler Wilson, Mike Wright, Parker Bridwell or Vance Worley a shot.

Who would you prefer to see take the mound every fifth day for the Orioles?
