Baltimore Ravens: 2015 Running Back Grades
By Joe Serpico
What a difference a year can make for a running back. Last season, Forsett was one of the top backs in the NFL and seemed to churn out 100-yard games on the regular. He only had two such games in 2015 and was largely ineffective before a broken arm ended his season.
Many were skeptical of how Forsett would fare under a new system and a year of wear and tear. He did little to impress, but that’s largely because the Ravens trailed in the majority of the games they played. The only two times Forsett broke 100 yards are also the only two games in which he carried the ball at least 20 times.
It is tough to gauge how Forsett was fitting in Trestman’s offense. He was not having the same kind of success as last season under Gary Kubiak, but was not terrible either. After averaging 5.4 yards per carry a year ago with 17 plays over 20 yards, the numbers dropped to 4.2 yards and only three 20-yard runs. We will never know how he would have done because he got hurt, but the big games were not there without his explosive plays.
We know the number 30 is one that is daunting for running backs. Age is still a factor for a player that has not been hit a bunch in his career, but that is when injuries come more often. Forsett is under contract for two more seasons, but the Ravens may have the future at running back with the younger Allen, West and Taliaferro all in the mix. Next season will be a critical year for him to show that
