Baltimore Ravens: Ranking the 10 Best Players in Team History
By Joe Serpico
Matt Stover
There was a period of time in which Stover was the only person scoring for the Ravens. During the magical 2000 run to a title, the Ravens would not score a touchdown for five consecutive games. Stover would hit 16 field goals total before the Ravens finally reached the end zone.
Stover not only goes down as one of the greatest Ravens ever, but one the best kickers in NFL history. He retired fourth in NFL history in points scored with 2,004 points. He currently ranks sixth as Adam Vinatieri and Jason Hanson have moved passed him since.
A fun fact that you may not have been aware of is that the 2000 Ravens championship run was actually Stover’s second Super Bowl win. He was drafted by the New York Giants in 12th round – yes, back in that day and age of football when they had that many rounds – and they went on to win Super Bowl XXV. He would sign with the Cleveland Browns, before coming to the Ravens once the franchise moved to Baltimore.
Baltimore has found another terrific placekicker in Justin Tucker and the current kicker has repeatedly said that the former Raven has helped him tremendously during his career. Tucker has a long way to go to catch the franchise leader in scoring as he is only 950 points away from catching Stover.
