I pause today from the normal ebb and flow of our writing to announce the celebration of the second birthday of this sports blog, The Baltimore Wire. It is now a toddler — more than a baby, but with a lot of growing yet ahead.
Having raised five sons and survived five trips around the sun with two-year-olds, I know something about the crazy fun of the “terrible twos.” And as the founding editor of this blog, it really is like one of my kids!
We began publication on this date in 2013, and the first two years have been really great. We have been able to churn out roughly 2500 articles — covering the Orioles, Ravens, and Terps primarily. We have recently begun to pick up with the Washington Wizards, the local NBA franchise for Marylanders. Along the way we occasionally cover some of the other local colleges and Maryland high schools (as you will be able to see with the Maryland State Championships, beginning tomorrow, for example).
If you are a new reader, we are what is called a “local site” on the FanSided Sports Network — partnered with Sports Illustrated and now owned by Time.

Our unique angle is not to break news or to give you the inside scoop from the locker room. Rather, we take the angle that you have — that of being a fan, rendering opinions and analyses upon rosters, games, strategies, and all else related to our primary teams of coverage.
So thank you for being a part of this with us. We welcome your feedback and opinions as fans as well. And if you have not already done so, please like us on Facebook and/or follow us Twitter.
