When the Ravens drafted Davis, they knew that a first-round talent fell to them all the way into the third round. It was a terrific pickup for both parties, who in hindsight was exactly what the Ravens have needed with the injury to Terrell Suggs.
It’s hard to associate stats with defensive linemen in a 3-4 defense, but his impact has been felt. Davis has been a force at times on the defensive line and has shown flashes of why many in Baltimore think his style of play is similar to that of Haloti Ngata. He’s got the speed to get after the passer, but also the strength to stand up blockers and make a play on a ball carrier.
This could be the start of a very good career for Davis. He was the Ravens highest-ranked defensive player during the preseason, according to Pro Football Focus. He has already been asked to start along the defensive line when Timmy Jernigan was forced to miss the regular-season opener against the Denver Broncos. Dean Pees has some young assets along the interior line and Davis could be a significant contributor along this line for years to come.
