Quarterback Joe Flacco will not play in the final preseason game so it will be Matt Schaub and Renner handling all the snaps. Renner has done well when he’s been on the field, but is it enough to jump ahead of the veteran? The offense was stagnant when Schaub was in the game against the Washington Redskins, but found life once Renner took over. Renner has shown good mobility, but even he has had his share of turnovers.

Renner has a lot to play for against the Falcons. The book is already out on Schaub (and it’s not a good one), but the league knows very little about the former North Carolina Tar Heel. Renner should have an extended opportunity to play and will be hopeful to impress.

This is more of a knock against the play of Schaub. Many thought that the backup quarterback spot would be locked down by Schaub, but he has struggled throughout the preseason. He has been too turnover prone since joining the Ravens, but with a guaranteed price tag of $2 million, would the Ravens be willing eat the salary and cut ties with the veteran quarterback? If the Ravens do keep Schaub around, Renner is likely a practice squad candidate or could be a backup elsewhere.
