  1. Other Notable Players’ Performances

Tight end Maxx Williams dropped a possible touchdown pass in the back of the endzone. Schaub threw the ball perfectly, but it bounced off his hands on third down.

However, the rookie wouldn’t let it affect him later in the game. He would pick up a first down on a 4th-and-20, which including him hurdling a defender and taking a big hit, but brushing it off to fall forward for the first down.

Williams did not start the game on the best note, but he certainly made up for it on the game-winning drive.

Outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith cruised through the middle of the line for a sack late in the game. He has had a good training camp to this point, so his ability to reach the quarterback only helps his case for a roster spot.

Wide receiver Jeremy Butler did not play up to the ability he showed during training camp. He has been one of the more impressive receivers during practices, but he didn’t look comfortable on the field during his first game.

He didn’t show much effort on a pass at the beginning of the second half, which led to Schaub’s pass being picked off.

The younger players still have a lot to work, but it was only the first preseason game. They now have tape from a real game to watch and learn from.
