With Justin Forsett starting, some may not think the backup position is much of an issue. However, the Ravens split up the carries between multiple players, so the backup needs to be a reliable back.

Most likely, the team will have two running backs behind Forsett to help carry the load. Thursday night, Taliaferro helped his case for the backup significantly. He received carries with the starters ahead of the rookie Buck Allen.

The backup running back position is going to be a tough competition, but Taliaferro certainly made his case against the Saints.

He ran for 36 yards on 12 carries, which included a touchdown on the goal line. He ran through the crowded trenches to score the first touchdown of the night. He was very effective in fighting for yardage and showing he could take contact.

The new offensive coordinator Marc Trestman likes to throw to the running backs, and the second-year player out of Coastal Carolina proved he could fulfill that desire. He caught two passes for 18 yards. He was able to not only catch a pass, but also move up the field for a first down.
