With Dennis Pitta still not fully recovered from his hip injury, Ravens’ second round draft pick Maxx Williams, will have the opportunity to compete for the starting job at tight end.

Williams certainly will have a chance, but it may be hard for him to overtake Crockett Gillmore. The advantage that Williams does have in this battle, however, is his playmaking ability.

In two seasons at Minnesota, he reeled in 61 passes for 986 yards and 13 touchdowns. Williams runs really crisp routes and also possesses a pair of strong hands. His athleticism certainly makes him the ‘sexier’ option at tight end.

Williams will need to improve as a blocker though, in order for him to blossom into the featured guy. That should come with time and reps though, especially once he gets in that weight room and adds some more bulk to his frame.

Williams most likely won’t be the Week 1 starter, but he’s bound to see plenty of action in 2015.
