The offense is not without its players recovering from injuries. As written about earlier, tight end Dennis Pitta was expected to be put onto the PUP list to start training camp. He has officially been put on the list, so unless he improves before the first regular season game, he will have to miss at least the first six games.
The other tight ends are going to have to step up to the challenge of replacing him for most of the season if not all of it. At this time, no timetable has been set for Pitta’s return. He does hope to play this season, so his goal should be to use training camp to heal fully.
The offensive line did not practice together throughout the offseason, but even with the minor injuries, they are expected to be on the field as a unit during training camp.
Offensive tackle Rick Wagner suffered a season-ending foot injury last year. He has not practiced during the offseason as his expected return date was set for training camp. With no reported setbacks, he should be on the field ready to help the offensive line produce a dangerous run game.
Center Jeremy Zuttah had an offseason hip procedure to remove bone spurs in February but is not expected to miss any extended time. He did practice on a limited basis during the offseason.
The hip is not expected to be a reoccurring problem, so he should be on the field with the other starters as soon as training camp begins. He did fight through the hip injury last season, so if he is fully healthy, the offensive line could become even better.
