Baltimore Ravens Rookies Preview Entering Training Camp
By Joe Serpico
The first defensive player selected by the Ravens was a borderline first-round pick that happened to fall into their lap in the third round. He has drawn a lot of comparisons to former Raven Haloti Ngata with his height, weight and speed, and that is the guy the Ravens are expecting him to replace. Davis told reporters after the draft that he was motivated and had a chip on his shoulder after falling to the third round, and Baltimore will be happy to reap the rewards.
The two-time, second-team All-Big Ten defensive tackle is part of a young interior line that Baltimore has built in recent seasons. Outside veteran Chris Canty, the Ravens are made up of defensive lineman of players with four years of experience or fewer. Davis will not be thrusted into the starting lineup immediately with Brandon Williams expected to take over for Ngata. He will find a way to get into the defensive line rotation that is still a strength for Dean Pees despite Ngata now being in Detroit.
