Baltimore Ravens Rookies Preview Entering Training Camp
By Joe Serpico
Javorius “Buck” Allen
Allen enjoyed a fantastic final season at USC, earning All-Pac-12 first-team honors with 1,489 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He is also a good blocker and receiver out of the backfield, which is needed in Marc Trestman’s offense. He also is coming from a college scheme that is mostly a pro-style offense so the transition should not be that difficult.
He will enter training camp in a battle with Lorenzo Taliaferro for the backup job behind Justin Forsett, and has a strong chance to earn the role. He will likely get some looks on third downs when Forsett needs a breather. Forsett is a more north-south runner, while Allen possess elusiveness and the ability to get to edge quickly. There is a solid role for Allen that is up for grabs and he could be the future at running back with Forsett set to turn 30 this season.
