The state of Maryland and the surrounding DMV area is one of the more underrated hotbeds when it comes to high school football and basketball recruiting. The area may not be as flashy as other states like California, Florida, and Texas, so it typically doesn’t receive the recognition that it certainly deserves.

The DMV area has produced a tremendous amount of elite football talent, including the likes of St. Louis Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin (Dunbar), Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden (Friendly), Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan (Gonzaga), and former Terps standout and now Minnesota Vikings wideout Stefon Diggs (Good Counsel). Even Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor is from the DMV area.

Year after year, the region continues to shell out some of the premier high school football talent in the entire country. A number of big-time local high school football prospects in the Class of 2016 have already committed to college football programs.

Defensive end Shane Simmons (DeMatha Catholic), the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland and defensive tackle Ellison Jordan (Gilman), the fifth-best player in the state, have both committed to Penn State. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr (Bullis School), the second-rated prospect in Maryland and outside linebacker Keandre Jones (Good Counsel), the No. 6 prospect in the state, have committed to the Terps.

These are just a few of the many talented players in the Class of 2016 that the state of Maryland has to offer. There are still some big names who have yet to make their college decision. Let’s take a look at the top uncommitted Maryland high school football prospects.
