3. Baltimore Orioles – 4 GB – Rotation, Corner Outfield
The Orioles’ rotation is struggling. Bud Norris was so bad he is out of the rotation after starting out 2-8, with an ERA still over 6.80. Chris Tillman, the opening day pitcher, has an ERA of 5.40 and is 6-7.
Wei-Yin Chen has been great. Ubaldo Jimenez has been extremely impressive after last year. Miguel Gonzalez has struggled recently.
Kevin Gausman has had some good starts and some bad ones.
As I said with the Yankees, can you win with three good starters, probably. But, the Orioles have questions on three starters, and that is not good news.
The other problem is the corner outfielders. Alejandro De Aza was supposed to be a starter, he is gone. Delmon Young was supposed to play a pivotal role, he is gone. Steve Pearce has regressed significantly. Travis Snider has been about what is expected. Nolan Reimold has been OK, although I am not sure the team has used him properly. Adam Jones is Adam Jones.
