The Maryland basketball program has released their non-conference schedule for the 2015-16 season. It features the renewals of some old rivalries.
The Terps are entering their second season in the Big Ten Conference and they’re bringing the best team they’ve had during Mark Turgeon’s tenure in College Park. As always, playing in the B1G will guarantee some tough matchup for the Terps, but the non-conference schedule isn’t without its fair share of big games.
Coach Turgeon said of the schedule:
"“We’re excited to play a strong and competitive non-conference schedule that includes terrific marquee matchups featuring some of college basketball’s perennial powers. This will provide great challenges and opportunities for our team prior to the start of conference play.”"
The Terps kick the season off on Friday Nov. 6 with an exhibition game against Southern New Hampshire, the alma mater of Maryland assistant coach Bino Ranson. The first official contest will take place on Nov. 13, as the Terps take on Mount St. Mary’s at the XFINITY Center.

Maryland has three marquee matchups on the schedule before they get to conference play. The first of those games comes on Nov. 17 against the Georgetown Hoyas as a part of the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games, which pits teams from the Big Ten and Big East against one another. It will be the first time the Terps and Hoyas have faced off in 42 years. This game is sure to draw plenty of attention, given the close proximity of the two schools.
The Terps are also set to do battle in Chapel Hill with an old ACC rival, North Carolina, on Dec. 1 in the ACC/B1G Challenge. This currently is a highly-anticipated matchup between two programs that will likely enter the season as Top 5 teams. The last time the two met was in 2014, Maryland’s final season in the ACC. The Tar Heels downed the Terps with a 12-point victory.
A week after the North Carolina game, the Terps will travel north to Madison Square Garden, where they’ll battle the UConn Huskies in the Jimmy V Classic. Maryland fell to the Huskies in 2013, the same year they defeated the Kentucky Wildcats in the national championship game.
