The Maryland Terrapins football coaches are sure to be paying close attention to Nike’s ‘The Opening’, as it comes to a close this weekend. The Opening, which is held on Nike’s Campus in Beaverton, Ore. is the biggest summer showcase event for elite high school football prospects. The Terps have a number of targets and commits participating in the event, including Dwayne Haskins Jr, who is Maryland’s prized commit from the Class of 2016. He’s opened plenty of eyes this week.

Haskins is certainly the centerpiece of Maryland’s 2016 recruiting class and he’s proving why, excelling against some of the premier high school football players in the country.

Scouts and experts at the event have revered Haskins as one of the most polished quarterbacks this week. The 6-foot-3 gunslinger has been doing damage against his opponents over the course of the event, particularly in 7-on-7 pool play. Haskins and Team SuperBad took it to Team Mach Speed yesterday and of course, his accuracy was on display.

Here’s one of those throws Haskins put right on the money.

Haskins also hooked up with fellow Terps commit, Darryl Turner, on a few occasions. Check out one of them.

I’m sure Randy Edsall would love to see those two connecting in the end zone for a few years in College Park.

Haskins is playing well and people are starting to take notice. In fact, he’s rapidly climbed up in the Elite 11 rankings, which ranks the top quarterbacks at the event.

It’s amazing how far along Haskins is in his game, especially considering he’s just entering his senior year of high school. He possesses great arm strength and is capable of making the tight throws. Haskins looks like a natural in the pocket, but another year of high school should develop his game even more and get him ready for the college ranks.

Haskins spoke on his performance at The Opening, as well as some other prospects he’s been recruiting to join him at Maryland.

He’s been Maryland’s biggest recruiter and the coaching staff is crossing there fingers, hoping Haskins’ efforts will pay off.
