The Backup Quarterback
The other quarterbacks not named Flacco are veteran Matt Schaub, Bryn Renner and rookie Jerry Lovelocke. The Ravens have consistently only had two quarterbacks on the roster, so only one of these players will be with the team apart from the practice squad.
Baltimore did not sign Schaub to a $3-million deal for him to compete with two players who barely have a year of NFL experience between them. Renner experienced training camp with the Denver Broncos last season, but he did not make the team.

The veteran would have to have the worst training camp for either of the other two players to surpass him. He is the backup. Despite his poor performance in recent seasons, he is a proven quarterback who could lead the team if he had to.
Schaub did not have the greatest offseason to this point, but his experience still gives him the benefit of the doubt over the two inexperienced quarterbacks. He needs to work on the interceptions that have plagued him, but he shouldn’t have to worry too much about his position as backup quarterback.
