Greivis Vasquez brings leadership and passion to Milwaukee Bucks

Greivis Vasquez is officially a Milwaukee Buck.

Former Maryland Terrapins point guard Greivis Vasquez was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2015 NBA Draft.

Although Vasquez is now playing for his fifth team (Memphis, New Orleans, Sacramento, Toronto and now Milwaukee) going into his sixth season in the NBA, The General has proven to be a quality guard who can start or come off the bench.

During his tenure in Toronto the past two seasons, Vasquez proved to be a vital role player who averaged 9.5 points, 3.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds. Last season, Greivis posted a single-season career-high 133 3-pointers while shooting 37.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Vasquez showed that he can be a starter in the NBA during the 2012-2013 season with New Orleans starting 78 out of the 78 games he played.

This was statistically his best season in the NBA averaging 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 9.0 assists. His 704 total assists that year ranked first in the NBA (yes, you read that right, FIRST), and his assists average of 9.0 ranked third in the league.

During his time in College Park, Vasquez cemented himself as a leader and a player who played with passion night in and night out. He has carried those same qualities into the NBA and believes he can bring those same attributes with him to help this young Bucks team.

"“I can start; I can come off the bench,” Vasquez said. “Playing with young guys, I can bring that toughness, that leadership, the passion. I’m not afraid.”"

Vasquez will also get to play under head coach Jason Kidd, who ranks second in career assists and steals only behind the legendary John Stockton.

"“I played against him when he was an active player; I played against him when he was a coach for Brooklyn and now I’ve got the privilege to play under him.”"

Vasquez will have to compete for a starting position with the Bucks current point guard, 23-year-old Michael Carter-Williams, but it’s a competition he is ready to take head on.

"“When you go into practice thinking you’ve got to play against the other guy, then your team gets better,” Vasquez said. “That’s the mind-set I’m bringing. I want to go out there and compete and make him better. I know he’s going to make me better, too.”"

No matter where the Venezuelan-born guard plays basketball, he can be sure that he will be well supported by Terp Nation.

Good luck in Milwaukee Greivis!
