It’s rare that a single player comes along and can change the entire complexion of a collegiate football program. But, there is one player on the Maryland Terrapins football coaches’ radar who can do just that: Class of 2016 wide receiver Trevon Diggs.
Yes, Diggs is the younger brother of Terps standout and now Minnesota Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs. Stefon probably taught his younger brother everything he knows, but there is a good chance that little brother could be even better.
Trevon Diggs is rated as a four-star prospect by just about every major recruiting service, including ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports. According to the 247Sports Composite, Diggs is the third-best player in the state of Maryland and the fifth-best athlete in the country.

As a junior at the Avalon School in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Diggs caught 78 passes for 1,008 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is a tremendous athlete with blazing speed and crisp route-running ability just like his brother. Diggs dominated his opponents on both sides of the ball this past season. Landing Diggs would be another huge step for Randy Edsall and the rest of the Maryland football program. Diggs is another local product and would add even more credibility to the DMV to UMD movement, which has already gained plenty of steam, with big-time commitments from Class of 2015 defensive tackle Adam McLean and Class of 2016 quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Jr. What makes these commitments so important and monumental is the fact that these players passed up on the opportunity to play for powerhouse programs like Alabama, Notre Dame, and Florida State in order to represent their home state.
Diggs is a close friend of Haskins, Jr. In fact, the two are teammates on Team Super Bad at Nike’s ‘The Opening.’ The roster also includes DeMatha wide receiver D.J. Turner and Good Counsel linebacker Keandre Jones, both of whom have already committed to the Terps.
Haskins is the center piece of the movement, but he needs a go-to receiver and Diggs is the perfect fit. The two already have developed some chemistry while on the recruiting circuit and can have the opportunity to connect in the end zone for years to come if Diggs chooses to go to College Park.
Diggs was schedule to announce his college choice on July 4th, but has delayed the announcement until a date unknown. Maryland and Alabama are projected as the favorite’s to land him.
